Book Tour Guest-Daniels Nathan

About the Author

Nathan Daniels lives with psychological disorders including Agoraphobia, Borderline Personality Disorder, Insomnia, and OCD. Abused in his youth, orphaned and homeless as a teenager, he became self-abusive and suicidal as an adult. Against all odds he has survived, and now advocates for suicide prevention and
awareness through his writing.

Author Interview

• How did your book come to life?

I started writing as a self-prescribed form of therapy, and honestly had no idea that what I was writing
would become “Surviving the Fourth Cycle” someday. I was suicidal, had already been hospitalized, and
was running out of options for therapy. I would spend, sometimes 10 hours a day scribbling away in
notebooks… in my basement, trying to unlock the secrets of my mind and save my life. A year, and
thousands of hand-written pages later, I realized I had something that resembled a book.
http://ezinearticles.com/?Writing-Helped-Save-My-Life&id=7243149

•What other books are most similar to yours?

I’m an avid reader, and I don’t think I’ve ever read anything similar to Surviving the Fourth Cycle, which
truly is a unique book. With that being said, I can name some of my favorite non-fiction that deals with
similar subject matter. For a heart-wrenching story about severe abuse, I would recommend “A Child
Called It” by Dave Pelzer… definitely one of the most horrific cases of child abuse I’ve ever read. I’m
also a big fan of Andy Behrman’s “Electroboy", which is a great book if you want an unapologetic and
real insight into what it’s like to live with mental illness. Finally, a great book about self-discovery and
gaining control of your life is, “The Third Sunrise,” by Natalie Champagne, a talented new author from
Canada.

•Why do you think your readers are going to enjoy your book?

This is a very real and honest, first-person account, of what it’s like to lose your mind along with your
will to live. This book captures my journey, as I overcome the suicidal tendencies I’ve battled for twenty
years and learn to live with my mental illness.I think people who suffer from similar afflictions will feel less alone in the world when they read mybook, and be reminded that the human soul can survive great adversity. For those who don’t suffer with these ailments, I offer a genuine insight into what it’s like to live with widely misunderstood disorders like Agoraphobia and Social Anxiety Disorder. Also, Surviving the Fourth Cycle isn’t a negative experience at all. I do go into great detail about being avictim of sexual abuse, social isolation, losing my mom to cancer… and my dad two months later tobronchial pneumonia –being orphaned and homeless as a teenager, mental illness, self-abuse, and suicide. In the end, however, my story is about surviving these things, embracing the love of my family, and finally living my life. There are also some things you might not expect in a book like this. For example; my experience staying in a well-known haunted house, how close I came to being a professional wrestler and an American Gladiator, my views on parenthood, and an incredible love story… that proves true love can weather any storm.

•How long did it take you to write your book?

I spent approximately a year writing in depth journal entries about my daily struggles, and extremely
personal essays about the experiences and relationships in my life. It took another three months to weave
these ingredients together into something that would be reader-friendly and (hopefully) entertaining. I
then spent a couple more months re-writing the final draft until it was as good as I felt I could get it.•        Who designed the cover? I came up with the idea for the image of a chain breaking against a simple white background. The chain breaking can represent completely opposite concepts, strength or weakness, depending on how you look at it. Ultimately, it’s a symbol of breaking the chains that bound me, letting go of my past, and finally being free from the beckoning of the graveyard.
A cover designer named Todd Engel, who works with my publisher, Booklocker.com, brought my idea to
life

•What are you doing to market the book?  Are you using social media?

The most important thing, is having a website to showcase what the book’s all about, and that’s
http://www.survivingthefourthcycle.com/index.html
I definitely use social media to share my story, and get the word out about my book. I’m active on all the
major networks; Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, MySpace, Pinterest, Youtube, and even sites for
book lovers like GoodReads.com. I also write articles on a wide range of content, relevant to my book,
and share them on a regular basis through sites like SelfGrowth.com. I’m active on a couple poetry sites
too, like AllPoetry.com, where I enter my poems in contests and am able to promote my book through my
profile pages. My favorite thing to do is write blogs for a great site called therealsupermumblog.com. I
also have three video trailers for Surviving the Fourth Cycle that can be seen on my Youtube channel.

• In two sentences or less can you tell readers something unique about your book?

The journal entries that appear in Surviving the Fourth Cycle are completely authentic, copied directly out
of my notebooks, and most of them were written at times when I would have been considered clinically
insane (I was often ignoring visual and audio hallucinations when I would write). I never try to paint a
certain picture of myself, or make myself out to be “good” or “bad” I just tell my story, as is, completely
uncensored and without the woe-is-me attitude that you might expect in a book like this.

• List three adjectives that describe your book as a whole:

Honest. Emotional. Insightful.

• Where can a reader purchase your book?

You can purchase Surviving the Fourth Cycle directly through my publisher, (you can read the first two
chapters here as well), at…
http://booklocker.com/books/6455.html

The book is also available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and most online bookstores.

Description

After a turbulent childhood filled with traumatic events, including the death of his parents, Nathan
Daniels downward spiraled into hopeless despair and thoughts of suicide. Orphaned and homeless, he
miraculously clawed his way out of the bottom of the barrel and lived a relatively normal life for nearly
five years before he felt himself starting to slip into a familiar darkness. A cycle had begun that would
continue to repeat itself throughout his life with ever-growing intensity and threats.
Surviving the Fourth Cycle swings pendulously back and forth between two stories that ultimately bleed
into one...
You will experience the author's most recent battle with mental illness through raw and honest journal
entries that give you a rare "fly on the wall" perspective from a truly haunted mind. At the same time,
Nathan rips his closet door off its hinges and lets all the skeletons come rattling out through a series of
writings that are, in essence, the chapters of his life. You are in for a bumpy ride as he picks through the
bones in these extremely personal essays that examine the intense relationships and experiences that have
led to both his struggle to function in society, and his ability to persevere.

For Stores- Infinity Publishing Fire and Ice by Dianna Bellerose

http://www.buybooksontheweb.com/resource.aspx?id=4953

  Important book , 11/27/2012
Reviewer: Anthea Carson
This book is very important. It deals with the very real situation of domestic violence. I believe that this book will help women stay out of bad relationships, and help women who are in this very painful situation to know that they are not alone. This can be very important because usually one feels incredibly alone when they are a victim of domestic violence. I related to a lot of the struggles the main character went through, they are very typical and difficult. People say it is so easy to leave. This book shows some of the dangers of leaving, as well as the dangers of staying. For example, sometimes the batterer will hold the children hostage. NO mother ever wants to see anything bad happen to their children, so they stay out of fear. Sometimes the way a batterer manipulates is to take the children from the mother in a rage, leaving her to suffer with terrible anxiety and fear. Sometimes the batterer also abuses her with his family, by showing more loyalty to them than to her, and by allowing them to verbally abuse her and gossip about her. I highly recommend this book

Author Interview:

1. How did you come up with the idea about your book?
I love to read and one of my all-time favorite is Romeo & Juliet.  The original was written by William Shakespeare about two young stars – crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately unite their feuding families. In time there was West Side Story written by Arthur Laurent’s, about rivalry between street gangs and ethnic groups. A member of the Sharks, from Puerto Rico, falls in love with a member of the Jets, Polish American which only leads to fighting and ultimately death. Next came out the Modern Day Romeo & Juliet in a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Clair Danes.  So I came up with the idea, What about using that thought involving the two gangs that tried to take over Chicago in the 1092’s.

2. • What was the hardest part of writing your book?

I think the hardest part for me was the baseball scene. My husband helped me with that part since I am not really into sports.

3. • Did you do research for your book?

Oh yes, I read books and looked articles up on the internet and watched movies to help me create my characters. Since this is about a part of history that really happened I wanted to make sure I had the facts straight. But since it is also fiction, I made up a couple of characters that really didn’t exists and put them in my world.  My grandfather worked for Al Capone and he owned a little corner store which the mop kept safe for him. So I used that idea in my book and decided to make the man who owned the store a relative of Al Capone. This is how Rosemary came about, the girl who fell in love with a man from the wrong side of the tracks.  George Moran was also a gang leader who fought with Al Capone for Chicago. Jon May was a hired mechanic for George Moran and even though he had small kids, I made this part fiction and gave him a son old enough to fall in love. This began my story of a new kind of Romeo & Juliet. Both with attachments to the opposite gangs of Chicago which could only lead to trouble.

4. • How long did it take to write it?

It took me maybe six months to write and re-write to make sure I had the facts correct. Then I sent it to an editor.

5. What you want your readers to know about your work?

I enjoy writing. My books will never be best sellers, but they are enjoyable and will take you away from life for a little while. This book is not very long, but you will get a whirlwind tour of Chicago and learn a little history of Chicago in the 1920’s along with the enjoyment of a little romance thrown in.  I have written three other books and finishing another one.

I wrote my first book, Alzheimer’s A Caretakers Journal, from journals I kept while taking care of my father in law with his Alzheimer’s.

My book The Silver Locket came to me after my first grandchild turned fifteen years old. The memories came flooding back to that time her mom (my daughter) was pregnant while in high school which was the idea behind this book.

My third book A Struggle of the Heart came next as I looked back into my life when I changed careers from being a beautician to a paramedic due to the Oklahoma City Bombing. But I decided to make a romance triangle to make this book a lot more interesting.

6. Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I actually learned a lot more about the city of Chicago, which is a city I am in love with. I mean sure I have done some traveling and there is New York with the Statue of Liberty and there I France with the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. I loved Rome and the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. But there is a kind of magic to me about the City of Chicago. The night life, the noise, the real tall buildings are just a little about this city that makes it so appealing. Let’s not forget you can go to the zoo, or the beach or the top of the John Hancock building to see and feel the magic of this city. In fact I went back to Chicago looking for the garage where the Valentines Massacre happened but I was disappointed to see it was gone.

About the Book:

My story takes place in the turbulent era of the 1920’s, prohibition and gangs running rampant in the streets of Chicago. You will enjoy this new version of the events leading up to one of the bloodiest days in Chicago’s history with Tommy-guns, gangsters and a love story throw in.

Book Tour Guest- Anthea Carson Author, The Dark Lake (The Oshkosh Trilogy)

Authot Bio:

Anthea Carson was born in 1964 and grew up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She has been a tournament chess player, winning such National awards as Female Game 60 champion of 2003, and is frequently listed in the top 100 chess-playing women in the U.S. list. She has worked as a chess coach in the schools since 1999. She is the co-author of "How to Play Chess Like an Animal," a children's chess book. Anthea has been playing chess and writing fiction since childhood. She has two published novels, one young adult fiction called "Ainsworth," and "The Dark Lake," a story about a ghostly woman who haunts Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Author Interview:

1.What genre do you write?

I have written three young adult novels, one adult psychodrama, one children's illustrated chess book, two short stories, and one literary fiction. My favorite to write is literary fiction.

2.Do you have specific writing style?

I used to write stream of consciousness, but I'm trying to move away from that, and just write straight fiction.
3.How did you came up with the idea about your first book?

Most of the books I write are from my life. I take real events and then change them around, play with them, and make things up around them.

4.What was the biggest challenge in your writing?

The biggest challenge is writing when I don't feel inspired. That is still a challenge I haven't overcome.

5. Is there an Author who you can consider mentor in your writing?

I'm trying to learn from Hemingway, but I would say up till now the influence has been Proust or Nabokov.

6. What you want to share with your readers?

I really enjoy reading other indie writers, and I'm really excited about publishing on Amazon kindle. I like the free promotions and I love to exchange reviews with other indie authors. I don't mind receiving negative reviews, but I try not to give them, at least not without sharing them with the author first.

7.Did you learn anything from your book and what was it?

I am very excited because I feel that I finally learned how to write a scene with this last book I wrote, called "Call me Jane."

Here it is a sneak pick from my new book:

Janey Lou wants to fit in with the cool crowd. No scratch that. Janey Lou wants to be herself, and stop pretending to be someone she’s not.

Janey Lou switches her name to Jane, switches schools, and decides not to try to fit in with any “crowd.”

This new, independent attitude causes her to fit in with the coolest crowd of all. Before she knew what happened she found herself caught up in a lifestyle she wasn’t emotionally prepared for.

About the Dark Lake:

Jane wanders the lake in search of the voices that call her from the depths. She just can’t seem to get her life together. She tries to move on from the past. She goes to therapy. She goes to AA. She tries to find a job, and eventually, to avoid jail time, she goes to Anger Management. But she just can’t seem to get past her past.
Her therapist tells her she needs to remember what happened at the party. Whatever happened at the party holds the key. She tries to remember, but it’s hard if not impossible to remember what happened in a blackout. But whatever it is, that’s what haunts her, and if she can just deal with it, she can move on.
But then they start dragging her car from the lake. “Why,” she wonders, “after all this time, why are they pulling her car from the lake?”

Book Tour Guest-Samantha Holt Author, The Angels Assasin, a Medivel Story of Love and Betreyal

Author Bio:

Samantha Holt resides in Warwickshire, England, with her twin girls, having followed her soldier husband around the UK for nearly 10 years. Growing up in Hampshire, she was inspired by the authors Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell, both of which lived and wrote only miles from her home town.

Samantha loves the romance genre and has been devouring romantic literature for as long as she can remember. History is another passion of hers and she loves to combine her love for history and romance into exciting and passionate tales.

Blurb:

A medieval story of love and betrayal.

As a rebellion sweeps England, Lady Annabel finds her home overrun by rebels. Much to her relief, a dark knight comes to her rescue, claiming to have been sent to protect her by her uncle.

But Nicholas holds a secret about the job he was sent to do and it is a far cry from what Annabel believes it to be. As the attraction between them grows, Nicholas begins to question the dark life he has lived. But is it enough to change him and will Annabel ever trust again after learning the true nature of his sinful duty?

Author Interview:

1. What genre do you write?
I write historical romantic fiction.

2. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

There's nothing particularly deep about my books, really I just want to offer my readers a happy ending with an interesting journey on the way but I enjoy exploring different personalities and how they react to one another. All of my heroes and heroines learn something along the way.

3. How much of the book is realistic?

Because all my romances are set in the medieval times, it can be tricky. The middle ages spans such a large stretch of time that things change depending on when you set it so there is no distinct rules for writing medieval stories. You just have to research...a lot! Generally I try to ensure that they are as accurate and as realistic as possible but naturally there are places where you have to take artistic licence and just hope your reader forgives you. I try and convey some of the grittiness of the times but people are reading them for the romance, not a history lesson, so I would say my books are as realistic as I can allow them to be.

4. What books have most influenced your life the most?

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell and most of Jane Auten's works. I was actually brought up on a steady diet of sci-fi and fantasy, like Terry Pratchett. That was my bedtime reading as a child! I still love the genre but I just don't have the ability to pull stories from mid-air.

5. Can you share a little of your current work with us?

My latest full length story is under way. It's in the very early stages but I can say it will involve two brother's and will explore how a relationship can develop when there is a communicative barrier.

6. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Keeping the pace going can be difficult, particularly when trying to link two scenes. That's why I have several critique partners that can help me nail down any pesky slow parts.

7. What is your favorite food?

This is a question that has got me stumped for years! I honestly can't name one single dish, as I love so many and it depends on my mood. My favourite's include a nice curry, good old English fish and chips, scallops, lamb shank in mint gravy, stuffed peppers...oh too many to name!

Book Tour Guest-Debra Jean East-Author Paranormal Romance, Radiance - Love after Death

Biography:

Debra Jayne East was born the oldest of six girls in Martinsville, Virginia. For as long as she could remember, she loved to keep journals, write poetry and short stories. She researched her family tree and suddenly she understood why. Her distant relative, Violet Florence Martin was an Irish author, born in 1862, who co-wrote a series of novels with cousin Edith Somerville under the pen name of Martin Ross in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Learning about her heritage encouraged her to follow her dreams. After she encountered a near-death experience during a routine surgery, she realized her time had come to follow her heart and realize her calling to be a writer. Her first novel, Radiance:Love after Death was released by XOXO Publishing in June of last year.
Debra lives in North Carolina close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoys photography, volunteering and spending time with her family. Currently, she is nearly finished with a second book in her Radiance series and also working on a science fiction novel.Ms. East loves to set her stories in the rural areas surrounding her home. The idea came to her for her first book when after a long depression from the break up of her marriage, she found a crooked heart-shaped stone in the grass near by. It reminded her that even though hearts get broken and scarred from loss that they are still capable of love. Finding the stone renewed her will to go on, and she realized it had a message for anyone recovering from heart break. She passes that message on in Marena Jacobs, her gutsy endearing heroine in Radiance:Love after Death. She hopes her readers will take to heart the wonderful message of a crooked heart-shaped stone that saved her life and inspired a book.

When Marena Jacobs drove home on a cold, rainy night to Eden, North
Carolina, she never expected to meet the man of her dreams, after she
died. Surviving a near fatal car accident, she slowly recovers from a
traumatic brain injury and crushed leg. In the months ahead, she
remains haunted by what happened in the seconds of time she passed from life to death. Was it real or imagined?
Before the accident, her life had almost come to a tragic end.
Contemplating suicide, she found a crooked heart-shaped stone in the
grass that saved her. She realized that it carried a message. "Even
though your heart is broken, it's still a heart, you can still love."
A stranger was about to prove to her how true that was!

Interview:

What inspired you to begin Writing?

Well, after a break up of a long marriage I found myself alone and starting over in my forties. I was depressed and discouraged. My hope was nearly gone
when I found a crooked heart- shaped stone in the grass. I heard a message loud and clear inside my mind. Even though your heart is broken, it's still a heart,
and you can still love. That rock saved my life and inspired me to weave its story into a paranormal romance novel. It first started on a trip to the library. I read a wonderful book called A Secret Garden by Francis Hodgins Burnett that hooked me instantly. I loved how reading made me feel adventurous, inspired and happy without leaving my room! At seven years old, I then wrote my first story called Ghost and Sabre that my best friend bought for her brother who liked "scary" stuff. I knew I was on to something because being a kid, I didn't even think about anyone wanting to read it. it. She wanted to buy it on her own for her brother. Gee, I wonder if he still has it, lol? I'd like to see it after all these years!

Please share about your latest book.

Marena Jacobs never expected her life to end in near tragedy. While driving home one night in a bad storm, she passes a young boy walking alone in the rain. While she stops to find a place to call for help, her car stalls in the path of an oncoming tractor trailer. Moments later, as she lay dying on the sidewalk, she is offered a second chance at love from an unexpected source. Months alter, waking up from a coma , she must start rebuilding her life. Marena struggles to recall what happened in those seconds of time she passed from life to death. Was it real or imagined? The tall, dark stranger climbing in her window is about to help her remember.

How did you decide to publish this book? Why?

I was watching Stephanie Meyers on television one day, and suddenly she spoke into the camera. She said if anyone had a desire to be a write they should just do it. When she said that I "knew" my book would be published. Why? I think the message of the heart-stone is a message that wants to be heard.

What is your advice to beginning writers?

My advice is to not accept the first publisher who wants to sell your book. Investigate and ask other writers how they are treated. There are lots of bad publishers out there. Three years is a long time to wait to end a contract. Next, don't be afraid to ask for changes in your promotion if its not working for you. It's still your work.

What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?

It seems funny now, but at the time it was daunting. I did not know how to type well or use Microsoft Word. I taught myself and well, I'm still learning. All my book was written in long hand and had to be typed.

Most writers are readers. What books are on your "to-read" list?

I can't wait to read K.D.Emerson's, Digitus 233 and Karen Magill's Broken Flowers. These ladies can write!

Where can readers find out more about you and your book?

She became a real-life Sherlock Holmes to help solve her millionaire ex-husband's murder. She is an avid reader of mystery novels, and the ex-wife of a murdered Texas millionaire, for whom she wrote the award-winning true crime story "Fighting the Devil". Jeannie Walker's debut true crime book "Fighting the Devil" is 2010 BOOK OF THE YEAR TRUE CRIME WINNER & 2011 NATIONAL INDIE EXCELLENCE AWARDS TRUE CRIME FINALIST.
“Fighting the Devil” – A True Story of Consuming Passion, Deadly Poison, and Murder By Jeannie Walker There was a time when the millionaire rancher, Jerry Sternadel, gave all the orders. No one dared to tell him times were a-changin'. When he discovered in May of 1990 that his wife, Lou Ann, and his bookkeeper, Debbie Baker, had stolen thousands of dollars from him, he demanded the money back by Memorial Day, threatening to have them arrested for embezzlement if they did not. He also told his wife he was going to divorce her. A week before Memorial Day, Jerry ate lunch with Lou Ann and Debbie as he often did. Soon after consuming his taco salad, he became violently ill, with nausea, vomiting, and severe diarrhea. He was admitted to the hospital on three different occasions between May 23 and June 12. Doctors were mystified as to what was causing this otherwise healthy forty-nine-year-old man to become so deathly ill. Jerry did not smoke or drink and he exercised daily. During his final stay in the hospital, toxicology tests showed 4,895 mcg of arsenic in his system. Even while he was a patient in the hospital, the arsenic levels had continued to climb! Jerry told nurses and anyone within earshot that his wife and bookkeeper were killing him. —excerpt from Fighting the Devil Author Website: http://jeanniewalkerbooks.com Author Blog: http://jeannie-walker.blogspot.com Amazon: Smashwords: http://bit.ly/la6Te8 Barnes & Noble: http://bit.ly/N4vJHf iTunes: http://bit.ly/if9mfN Independent Author Network: http://bit.ly/gF2Z3h

Book Tour Guest - Dariel Raye Author Paranormal Romance "Sable" Dark Sentinels

Dariel's love for books, as well as her fascination with animals and all things paranormal, prompted the beginning of her writing journey at the tender age of 8. The paranormal romance, "Raven's Shelter," one of five stories in Taming of the Wolf, was her second publication, and her first with The Wild Rose Press as a result of placing second in their "Got Wolf" competition - prompted the new "Dark Sentinels" series. Also a paranormal romance, "Vashti's Star," which she has plans to update, was her first published novel. Dariel has written articles for The News Item of Mobile, and Black Health Magazine of Atlanta. A classically trained pianist and vocalist with a degree in piano and vocal performance, Dariel plays more than 10 instruments, and worked as a band and choral director. With a master's in counseling psychology, she worked in mental health therapy, substance abuse counseling, and school/career counseling for more years than she wishes to reveal. She has presently completed studies for a Ph.D. with the exception of her dissertation, but a more recent battle with kidney failure changed her perspective and renewed a focus on her first loves, writing and music. Dariel is a native Mobilian and minister of music. In addition to her novels and articles, she has written and directed three musicals and composed more than 30 scripturally based compositions. She lives with a variety of pets, where she is working on three paranormal romance series, composing music, and making plans to record soon.
Sable’s search for his twin sister leads him to Akila. Born into a rare species of wolf shifters whose main purpose is protecting others, he has always been forced to fend for himself, but Akila’s loving, protective nature draws him – and not a moment too soon. Together, they must learn to trust each other enough to overcome a new, deadly enemy. What is a Toxic man or a (woman)?

The 3 Ways A Toxic Man Can Damage You "As I mentioned in a previous blog “What is a toxic man (or woman)?” I stated that a toxic man is someone who has emotional/psychological issues, usually from his childhood, which affects the way he behaves in his adult relationships People with issues feel psychologically uncomfortable on a regular basis and their emotional discomfort increases in intimate relationships In childhood, when the damaging experience/s occur, toxic people learn strategies to deal with the damage caused and avoid further discomfort, for example a man who wasn’t loved enough as a child will learn to cut himself off emotionally and avoid close relationships with others as he has learned that relationships with others equals pain and he can’t take anymore So how will you be damaged by these people? People who feel uncomfortable often lack integrity due to their insatiable need to feel ok. They need to feel better to such an extent that they are ridiculously self-absorbed and don’t have the ability to consider the repercussions of their choices on others. They will use every trick in the book and every mind game (subtle or explicit) to feel comfortable, so they often come across as manipulative and selfish This will lead them to behaving badly towards you, which could damage you in the following ways: 1) They will damage your self-esteem as they won’t be able to show that they value you This is because no matter how fabulous you are they will never realise it because they are dealing with internal stuff which will never allow them to see what is in front of them, no matter how much effort you put in. They will not attempt to meet your needs as they are so concern with their own. You will always be a passenger in the relationship due to their selfishness Your value is not based on what he does or doesn’t do. You are cool whether he makes an effort with you/values you or not 2) You will start to think that you aren’t good enough so you make more of an effort, hoping that he will like you more. This effort will never be rewarded so you will constantly feel frustrated and stressed out They will still give you crumbs of a relationship and keep your hopes alive as they are getting benefits from you being around and they want to keep this going. You will have the relationship carrot dangled in front of your face (especially if you start making noises about moving on from the relationship) which encourages you to believe that if you try a bit harder, you will finally get the relationship that you want. This is not going to happen and he knows it (no matter what lies he tells you). You will become obsessed with pleasing him and constanlty feel frustrated when he doesn’t reward you for your efforts. This frustration is compounded by the fact that he will go hot and cold to manipulate the situation You are good enough as you are and a healthy adult male will know this 3) You will question/doubt your perception and your sanity as they will defend their hurtful behaviour with irrational excuses which will be argued with absolute conviction, so that you doubt yourself This is because the toxic man will: a) feel bad about how they are treating you so give the most irrational excuses (because their in no rational explanation for their hideous behaviour) to avoid feeling bad about themselves and b) will argue with absolute conviction so that they can convince both themselves and you that their behaviour is ok. It is not – period. They are motivated to convince you that their behaviour is ok because if they manage it, you will stop nagging which makes them feel uncomfortable and will then carry on the relationship as normal which means giving them benefits of the relationship. In addition to this they’ve got away with behaving selfishly, so have got their own way, and managed to keep you interested. Never fall for the irrational argument technique. He knows that he’s behaved badly and is just hoping that you will drop it soon, so he doesn’t have to face the truth about his CHOICES and feel guilty * His behaviour has absolutely nothing to do with you or your worth – He is an out and out crazyoid! * (just because he doesn’t look like one doesn’t mean he isn’t one) You are not the cause or the catalyst. He will treat all women the same way because the problem is within him and he carries this problem around with him every day and into every new relationship When toxic people behave badly, they will often produce an excuse and say that they didn’t mean to do something, but whether people mean to hurt you or not, they are still hurting you and this is what you should focus on. You are not responsible or to blame for other people’s issues. The only person who can resolve their issues and enable them to become psychologically healthy, is the person with the problem. However, these types of people often don’t realise that they have a problem as the way they feel is normal to them. I hope that you haven’t experienced a toxic man but if you have, hopefully he is in your past and you realise that you are now free of his poisonous influence. If you are associated with one currently, you cannot change him and he won’t change in the future (if this is what you are waiting for) unless he wants to change and while you are still around he has no reason to – Consider leaving this situation before you lose your self-esteem, self-respect and sanity “But I love him”, I hear you cry – Who do you love more? Him or you? Go spend your energy finding a man who is psychologically healthy. There are many of them out there – you just have to make an effort If you need help, identifying whether you are in a toxic relationship or you want help to free yourself from a toxic relationship, I offer coaching sessions and email support to help you with this.
