Book Tour Guest- Author, Rachel Rossano

Author Bio

Author of novels, novellas, and short stories, Rachel Rossano balances her time between the chaos of raising and homeschooling her three children and the world of drama and high adventure in her head. With her faithful husband and chief consulting editor by her side, she dreams of many more adventures to come in both of her double lives. Check out her work at: http://Rachel-rossano.blogspot.com.

Interview with Rachel Rossano

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Stories were my world even as a child. I was constantly pretending to be a princess in distress, a space ship captain on a mission, or Robin Hood’s side kick. The stories didn’t make onto the page until I was in my early teens. Even then, the process took so much work that I tended to not enjoy writing. It was only when I began my third novella that I realized I was hooked.

I didn’t seriously consider being a writer as a career until I was in the midst of college. I promptly rejected the idea of trading my wise choice (accounting) for something with such low marketability as writing. After all, I wasn’t interested in journalism, just creative writing.

Years later, looking at the prospect that I might never realize my dream of being a mother, I decided to pursue another dream, writing. That was when I began seriously considering writing as a career. Here I am, mother of three and writing part-time between mothering, keeping house, and homeschooling.

What were some of your first steps toward making your dream a reality?

My first experience with publication was very disappointing. I fell in with a publisher more interested in selling my book to me than to anyone else. But I wasn’t willing to give up on the dream of seeing more of my stories in print. So I researched, read, listened, wrote, edited, and learned. Unable to write anything that fit publishers’ submission criteria, I discovered Lulu.com and joined the indie revolution by accident. Now one novel, two novellas, and two short stories later, I think I am committed.

What 3 adjectives best describe you?

Talkative, busy, happy

Tell us a little bit about your books?

The Mercenary’s Marriage is a novella about the relationship between a mercenary warrior and a slave girl who fears men. He physically represents everything she fears. Can he get her to see past his career and his exterior and earn her trust?

The Crown of Anavrea (Book One of The Theodoric Saga) is novella about a man running from his past. He finds hope in a woman without a future. While on the run, Labren falls injured. Before his pursuers find him, he is discovered by a slave woman named Eve. She convinces him to not give up on life. Together they face difficulties of their pasts.

Exchange is a science fiction short story. Isolated on a distant planet, she is incarcerated for a crime she doesn't recall. She has no name, no idea where she came from, or why she is injected with drugs daily to hold these vital facts from her grasp. Despite small rebellions, she wastes away, worn and losing hope of ever being whole again. Then he arrives. Claiming to hold the answers burned daily from her brain, he offers her a way out. But at what cost?

Word and Deed is a medieval short story. Death or an arranged marriage, Verity refuses to accept the choices. Verity Favian's father dies unexpectedly. Her half-brother, Verdon, lays claim to all their father left behind: title, castle, and her. Verdon cannot touch the land set aside for her dowry so he offers her hand for sale to the highest bidder. Verdon locks her away in a tower. She is not sure if he seeks to prevent her from fleeing the marriage or spreading the truth only she seems willing to speak: Verdon killed their father. Either way, her time is running out.

What can we look forward to from you in the near future?

I have two new releases this year. This February, Duty: a novel of Rhynan debuts. Written in eight months, the fastest I have ever written a book, it began as the winning opening line in a contest. “’The red one is mine,’ he said.”

Brielle is a woman familiar with hardship. She has lost her mother to disease, her father to old age, her title due to lack of a brother, and her comfort because of a greedy cousin. When she finds out she lost her freedom thanks to her cousin’s political maneuvering, she figures she will have to make the best of it. …Except her cousin isn’t done with her or her new husband.

Sometime around August, I am expecting to be releasing another novel. Wren (A Romany Epistle Novel) is part of a unique project. Eight of my friends and I developed an idea of writing nine novels about nine siblings that began in the same spot and ended in the same spot. We would each write a sibling’s story and then publish all the books. Years later, four of the books are written, two will not be written, and the remaining three might be finished someday. Wren is my contribution.

Wren Romany lives by her skills as a hunter, a bounty hunter. But, after a year and a half on the road, she wants to settle down for the winter. Finding a nice quiet valley, she falls in with a band of veterans from the wrong side of a recent civil war. She quickly realizes that there is more going on in the valley than what meets the eye. The focus of the turmoil and tension is the former nobleman and owner of the crumbing castle where she now resides. Not one to do nothing, Wren sets about trying to improve the situation.

My writing/editing plate is almost always full. I have two short stories in the works. One is a mystery/romance about a maid of all work in a Regency boarding house who gets caught in the secrets swirling around the two male residents.

The other is a side story related to Duty: a novel of Rhynan. It is not going to be a happily ever after romance, though. I wanted to explain the significance of a certain prop to a secondary character in Duty.

Then there is the epic prequel to Exchange I have planned. Romance, interplanetary intrigue, and politics are on the agenda for that one.

How do your values show up in your writing? What do you want readers to take from your writing?

I write Clean or Sweet Romance, which means there is no sex on the page. I believe there are some areas that need to remain intimate between husband and wife and not on the page for everyone to read. My characters also watch their language, usually. If they do swear, I don’t write the words on the page. I want to write books that I can hand to my children when they are old enough to appreciate them.

I hope my writing reflects my beliefs and values, but I work hard not to preach at the reader. I also seek to entertain, edify, and lift up the reader. I want them to walk away from my books feeling encouraged.

What do you look for in a good book?

An interesting premise, quality writing, solid characterization, a plot that moves the book along, and a satisfying ending make up a combination that is hard to find. I find I value topics that interest me, writing style, and characterization highest when evaluating a book, though the other aspects need to be there in some measure.

What are some of the best social media, marketing, and publicity tips you’ve come across?

First, have a great product. Edit, take criticism, revise, and learn. There is no such thing as perfection and writing is a journey.

Second, on your social media accounts, offer similar things or information that touch on the interests of your audience. For instance, I write fantasy based heavily on history. So I post on my Facebook page and twitter account about historical articles that interest me. I am a writer and some other writers follow my page. Adding articles, pictures, quotes that interest them draws them to interact on my page and make it something they look for when they log on to their account. The same goes for reading related quotes and extras.

I begin promoting a book while I write it. Offering quotes, new sentences, and other tidbits as I write invites the followers to invest in the book even before it is finished.

In all areas, I try to be helpful, engaging, and supportive. Going out of my way, I can make a new friend, someone to share the publishing or reading journey with me.

Also, once you finish one book, start writing the next. The bigger you back list the better your income. Keep growing by adding quality new novels, novellas, and short stories to your list of published work.

Book Tour Guests - Authors from all over the World, Supporting the Culture and Environment

Trad Online is a French language service provider. All types of content, to and from a growing number of languages- truly a global venture.
We are proud to be involved in a number of side projects, such as this one, by supporting culture and the environment in a time of economical downturn.

You can see who we are and what we’re up to on Facebook and Twitter

 Book Synopsis

Fifty professional translators provide a unique insight into their country's culture

All those countries you've never been to, all those words that sound familiar though the meaning lies hidden, all the people you wish you'd met...

How can we bring it all together? This was our incentive, as language and culture

professionals and enthusiasts, in creating a crowd-sourced book like no other, and show you the world... between the lines.

Natives from fifty countries give you a rich account of what it means to be a part of life in their homeland: you'll find out what events shook their lives, and what songs kids sing in the streets, not to mention a plethora of sayings and words to make you sound like a local.

All profits go straight to Trad Online's favourite NGO, Planete Urgence, whose aim is to help people in poor areas by organising local actions, such as planting trees.

[Translators] share many of the same responsibilities as journalists but remain low profile and receive little appreciation or recognition for their work. "THE WORLD IN WORDS" is a celebration of these learned individuals and the world they serve. Good luck!

Mark Levit - Serial Entrepreneur, Marketing Professional, University Professor

Excerpts from authors’ interviews

FROM URUGUAY: EMILIANO BENTANCUR

The book not only helps directly in the [global warming] struggle, but also makes that
statement with utter clarity, as it gathers efforts from individuals from completely different
countries and directs them towards one common goal. If everyone involved in the project
gives their best towards promoting it (and I’m sure we will), we could create a chain effect
which will greatly benefit the whole world!

FROM THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: MARIE BENZO

It’s an avant-garde initiative. It’s the first step towards what I foresee as the first of many
contributions, expressed by and for linguists, but also, professionals who are human
beings, who have dedicated themselves to learning, to excelling, to teaching future
generations of rising talents, who will also one day dedicate themselves to this impressive
work. Why do I say impressive? Because if few words can be used to describe it,
impressive is definitely one of them.

FROM ETHIOPIA: EYOB FITWI

I liked the idea of helping give a deeper understanding of a country. I also wanted to
participate and contribute towards something worthwhile, and I felt that this was a good
enough reason.

FROM ARMENIA: SHUSHAN MELIK-ADAMYAN

New ideas always appeal to me, and I feel that bringing a piece of your life to others,
making them see your own country as you see it is most rewarding! It is as if you
become the ambassador of your country, you have to save its face, but you also need to
be sincere and show your country as it is, with vices and virtues, with national
peculiarities and traditions.

FROM ITALY: CLAUDIA SALAMONE

Working with emails and Skype, we may get in touch with many translators from other
countries and cultures, but we hardly have the chance to have a real cultural exchange
via the Internet. This book is a way of going beyond our actual work, enrich our
knowledge about other cultures through the eyes of people who share our common
interest and love for languages and communication.

Book Tour Guest-Author David Swykert

Author Bio:

DJ Swykert is a former 911 operator writing fiction. His work has appeared in: The Tampa Review, Monarch Review, Sand Canyon Review, Zodiac Review, Scissors and Spackle, Spittoon, Barbaric Yawp and BULL. Children of the Enemy, a novel from Cambridge Books. Alpha Wolves, a novel by Noble Publishing. You can find him on the blogspot: www.magicmasterminds.com. He is a wolf expert.

Author Interview:

1. When did you know you wanted to be a writer? What were some of your first steps toward making your dream a reality?

I don’t believe I ever thought about it in terms of a career. I had a good reading aptitude when I was young and liked reading adventure stories. The first thing I ever wrote was a poem to a potential girlfriend as a teenager. It wasn’t very successful, she went off to college and I never saw her again. I started many manuscripts over the years, but the first one I wrote to completion was Children of the Enemy. It then sat in a trunk for almost two decades before I found a publisher for it.

2. What 3 adjectives best describe you?

I’m curious, honest, and a realist.

3. Tell us about your books. Genre, titles, any favorite characters? What can we look forward to from you in the near future? WIP’s, upcoming releases

Children of the Enemy is in the crime genre, a brutal story about the Detroit drug business. I like the anti establishment hero Ray in the story, he’s a bit of an underworld version of Dirty Harry.

Alpha Wolves was written a decade ago, it’s a historical romance and sequel to an earlier book, Maggie Elizabeth Harrington, which is out of print. It deals with two of my favorite themes, romance and animal intelligence. Maggie acquires a wolf, and a husband, in the story.

The Death of Anyone is a love story and mystery about two Detroit Homicide Detectives searching for a killer of young girls. It’s a mystery, but the relationship of the two detectives is a big part of the story.

How do your values show up in your writing? What do you want readers to take from your writing?

No matter how carefully we disguise it there is always a portion of ourselves in our protagonists. My own beliefs, though veiled, are apparent in the major characters in my stories.

4. What do you look for in a good book?

I like books with a conclusive ending. I want a story I learn something from. I like books that thoroughly explore the characters as much as the conflict they are trying to resolve.

5.What are some of the best social media, marketing, and publicity tips you've come across?

First, write a good book, tell a good story. I think for building a platform the best source are book blogs. It will take time, but if you have a good story and get it front of readers, eventually you’ll build a following.

About the book:

Alpha Wolves is a historical story about a woman in love with two men who is faced with the reality she must choose between them. The story is set in Central Mine, a remote copper mining village in 1900’s northern Michigan. Maggie Harrington lives a quiet life where you can hear the wind without interruption, until Tommie Stetter comes back into her life.

The book is available at: www.nobleromancepublishing and www.amazon.com. You can read an excerpt of the book there, or on my website www.magicmasterminds.com

Author Interview:

• Who inspires you?

My family. I get much too serious about everything so I look to my hilarious husband and crazy boys to keep me laughing and focused on what matters most.

• Where do you find your ideas? Does something trigger them? Do you carry around a notebook in case inspiration strike?

Most of my books are inspired by nightmares. When I awake in a cold sweat and find myself still pondering the nightmare days later I know it's a good one to write about. My other source of inspiration is running, ideas just come as I try to distract myself from the pain!

• How do you research your books?

I hate research! I'm really lazy, I bug friends who are knowledgeable about the subject or Google it online and find the experts, then email them and ask a million questions.

• Have you written your entire life? Have you always considered yourself a writer?

No. I have always loved to read, but didn't allow myself to dream I could become a writer. After the birth of my second son I was fighting postpartum depression and napping a lot. My mom came to visit, kicked me out of bed and said, "You need a hobby, go write me a book." I obeyed like the good daughter I am. Haven't had time for a nap since.

• Why do you write? Is it something you've always done, or always wanted to do?

I write because I feel incomplete when I don't write, plus those people in my head who want me to tell their story keep bugging me if I don't write.

• What is your writing process?

I have a nightmare and start writing about it then I see other scenes in my mind as I run or scrub toilets (fun inspiration, eh?). I get it all down on paper then I revise and revise and revise. Someday I'll get organized and outline, but that doesn't sound like as much fun.

• If you could visit a place for research, where would it be?

Italy. Don't know how much research I'd get done but it would sure be fun!

• Where do you want to go with your writing career? Where do you see your writing career in five years?
I want to entertain readers with clean and fun romantic suspense. In five years I hope to have at least ten more books on the market and still be enjoying the experience of writing while raising my cute boys.
Thanks for having me on the blog!
Hugs,
Cami

Welcome to The Next Big Thing blog hop

Welcome to The Next Big Thing blog hop!!! Is this a chain letter for authors? No.

Does it promote hopping as a creative outlet for those suffering from writer’s block?

Nope.

Simply put, it’s a way for readers to get to know authors and the quirks that live inside them.

The chance to participate came from my LinkedIn buddy and fellow author, Dianna Bellerose.

Many thanks, Dianna, for this great imposed--, I mean, opportunity! To get to know a bit more about

Book Tour Guest- Author Hunter S Jones

Bio:

I live in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I write books and stories. There is nothing you will ever know or learn about me as interesting as the art form I create.

Author Interview:

1.What inspired you to begin writing?

Thank you for asking Dianna, I have always written articles for fashion, rock & roll and art. A few months ago I suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and major complications. It has given me time to be completely creative for the first time in my life.

2.How did you decide to publish this book? Why?

With a complete lack of mobility I have been able to research and write on a daily basis.
That combination of events has given me time to research and write. Everyone copes differently with life's setbacks. I drew on my days in the music business to help me understand copyrights and publishing well enough to feel confident in self-publishing my debut novels.

3.What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?

The biggest challenge to writing Fables of the Reconstruction was the middle of the book. I knew how it would begin as well as what the ending would be. I eventually cut over 15000 words out of the original book before it was formatted to Amazon.

4.Most writers are readers. What books are on your "to-read" list?

Currently, I'm reading The Book of Paul by Richard Long. Next on the list is...well, so many great writers to choose from...I'll not choose a favorite and read the next few based on alphabetical order by the title of the book. That seems fair.

5.-- Question for fun sake---what was your favorite childhood meal and why?

Great question Dianna! As a child I loved French Toast covered in syrup.

Blurb:

Pomba Gira Mysticism. Creole Voodoo. The zombie apocalypse.

Fables of the Reconstruction is the story of a Belgian pimp living in Victorian London's notorious Whitechapel District. He possesses a 'magic' powder, and claims to be un dead. He believes in Pomba Gira mysticisms & follows Creole Voodoo. There is a modern, surprise twist to the book's ending. Enjoy it now-only on Amazon.com

Meet Pierre von Minzle and Mary Montague. They are the Adam and Lilith of today's zombie apocalypse. Fables of the Reconstruction is a playful yet graphic sexual adventure consisting of what might have been with what possibly might be happening now.  This ain't your daddy's shotgun zombie story.

Book Tour Guest-Daniels Nathan

About the Author

Nathan Daniels lives with psychological disorders including Agoraphobia, Borderline Personality Disorder, Insomnia, and OCD. Abused in his youth, orphaned and homeless as a teenager, he became self-abusive and suicidal as an adult. Against all odds he has survived, and now advocates for suicide prevention and
awareness through his writing.

Author Interview

• How did your book come to life?

I started writing as a self-prescribed form of therapy, and honestly had no idea that what I was writing
would become “Surviving the Fourth Cycle” someday. I was suicidal, had already been hospitalized, and
was running out of options for therapy. I would spend, sometimes 10 hours a day scribbling away in
notebooks… in my basement, trying to unlock the secrets of my mind and save my life. A year, and
thousands of hand-written pages later, I realized I had something that resembled a book.
http://ezinearticles.com/?Writing-Helped-Save-My-Life&id=7243149

•What other books are most similar to yours?

I’m an avid reader, and I don’t think I’ve ever read anything similar to Surviving the Fourth Cycle, which
truly is a unique book. With that being said, I can name some of my favorite non-fiction that deals with
similar subject matter. For a heart-wrenching story about severe abuse, I would recommend “A Child
Called It” by Dave Pelzer… definitely one of the most horrific cases of child abuse I’ve ever read. I’m
also a big fan of Andy Behrman’s “Electroboy", which is a great book if you want an unapologetic and
real insight into what it’s like to live with mental illness. Finally, a great book about self-discovery and
gaining control of your life is, “The Third Sunrise,” by Natalie Champagne, a talented new author from
Canada.

•Why do you think your readers are going to enjoy your book?

This is a very real and honest, first-person account, of what it’s like to lose your mind along with your
will to live. This book captures my journey, as I overcome the suicidal tendencies I’ve battled for twenty
years and learn to live with my mental illness.I think people who suffer from similar afflictions will feel less alone in the world when they read mybook, and be reminded that the human soul can survive great adversity. For those who don’t suffer with these ailments, I offer a genuine insight into what it’s like to live with widely misunderstood disorders like Agoraphobia and Social Anxiety Disorder. Also, Surviving the Fourth Cycle isn’t a negative experience at all. I do go into great detail about being avictim of sexual abuse, social isolation, losing my mom to cancer… and my dad two months later tobronchial pneumonia –being orphaned and homeless as a teenager, mental illness, self-abuse, and suicide. In the end, however, my story is about surviving these things, embracing the love of my family, and finally living my life. There are also some things you might not expect in a book like this. For example; my experience staying in a well-known haunted house, how close I came to being a professional wrestler and an American Gladiator, my views on parenthood, and an incredible love story… that proves true love can weather any storm.

•How long did it take you to write your book?

I spent approximately a year writing in depth journal entries about my daily struggles, and extremely
personal essays about the experiences and relationships in my life. It took another three months to weave
these ingredients together into something that would be reader-friendly and (hopefully) entertaining. I
then spent a couple more months re-writing the final draft until it was as good as I felt I could get it.•        Who designed the cover? I came up with the idea for the image of a chain breaking against a simple white background. The chain breaking can represent completely opposite concepts, strength or weakness, depending on how you look at it. Ultimately, it’s a symbol of breaking the chains that bound me, letting go of my past, and finally being free from the beckoning of the graveyard.
A cover designer named Todd Engel, who works with my publisher, Booklocker.com, brought my idea to
life

•What are you doing to market the book?  Are you using social media?

The most important thing, is having a website to showcase what the book’s all about, and that’s
http://www.survivingthefourthcycle.com/index.html
I definitely use social media to share my story, and get the word out about my book. I’m active on all the
major networks; Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, MySpace, Pinterest, Youtube, and even sites for
book lovers like GoodReads.com. I also write articles on a wide range of content, relevant to my book,
and share them on a regular basis through sites like SelfGrowth.com. I’m active on a couple poetry sites
too, like AllPoetry.com, where I enter my poems in contests and am able to promote my book through my
profile pages. My favorite thing to do is write blogs for a great site called therealsupermumblog.com. I
also have three video trailers for Surviving the Fourth Cycle that can be seen on my Youtube channel.

• In two sentences or less can you tell readers something unique about your book?

The journal entries that appear in Surviving the Fourth Cycle are completely authentic, copied directly out
of my notebooks, and most of them were written at times when I would have been considered clinically
insane (I was often ignoring visual and audio hallucinations when I would write). I never try to paint a
certain picture of myself, or make myself out to be “good” or “bad” I just tell my story, as is, completely
uncensored and without the woe-is-me attitude that you might expect in a book like this.

• List three adjectives that describe your book as a whole:

Honest. Emotional. Insightful.

• Where can a reader purchase your book?

You can purchase Surviving the Fourth Cycle directly through my publisher, (you can read the first two
chapters here as well), at…
http://booklocker.com/books/6455.html

The book is also available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and most online bookstores.

Description

After a turbulent childhood filled with traumatic events, including the death of his parents, Nathan
Daniels downward spiraled into hopeless despair and thoughts of suicide. Orphaned and homeless, he
miraculously clawed his way out of the bottom of the barrel and lived a relatively normal life for nearly
five years before he felt himself starting to slip into a familiar darkness. A cycle had begun that would
continue to repeat itself throughout his life with ever-growing intensity and threats.
Surviving the Fourth Cycle swings pendulously back and forth between two stories that ultimately bleed
into one...
You will experience the author's most recent battle with mental illness through raw and honest journal
entries that give you a rare "fly on the wall" perspective from a truly haunted mind. At the same time,
Nathan rips his closet door off its hinges and lets all the skeletons come rattling out through a series of
writings that are, in essence, the chapters of his life. You are in for a bumpy ride as he picks through the
bones in these extremely personal essays that examine the intense relationships and experiences that have
led to both his struggle to function in society, and his ability to persevere.

  Important book , 11/27/2012
Reviewer: Anthea Carson
This book is very important. It deals with the very real situation of domestic violence. I believe that this book will help women stay out of bad relationships, and help women who are in this very painful situation to know that they are not alone. This can be very important because usually one feels incredibly alone when they are a victim of domestic violence. I related to a lot of the struggles the main character went through, they are very typical and difficult. People say it is so easy to leave. This book shows some of the dangers of leaving, as well as the dangers of staying. For example, sometimes the batterer will hold the children hostage. NO mother ever wants to see anything bad happen to their children, so they stay out of fear. Sometimes the way a batterer manipulates is to take the children from the mother in a rage, leaving her to suffer with terrible anxiety and fear. Sometimes the batterer also abuses her with his family, by showing more loyalty to them than to her, and by allowing them to verbally abuse her and gossip about her. I highly recommend this book
